I have always loved Rockers since I first saw it, after owning the soundtrack CD since I was old enough to buy random bargains in HMV - classic 70s film starring a number of the Jamaican stars of the time, some great dialogue and music, and a downright good film

You beat me to the post! I love that film, the first clip is just brilliant.  Also I really recommend babylon if you haven't seen it

Two of my favourite riddims from studio 1

Love this track t, but I think it's Lee Scratch Perrys influence that makes it so good, and having it in stereo is great

Oh my that is amazing, thank you!
The Derrick Morgan clip was beautiful too, my new favourite version

Yes! Only seen it the once but was very impressed. Karl Howman seems to have had a high point here before playing Jacko in Brush Strokes and those awful Flash adverts.

I also liked Countryman, especially the bit when the Ital Rasta feeds the couple a load of foraged food preparing it with a giant machete

 :agree:

Has anyone seen One love? I got it from my better half at Christmas as it was recomended by her mate... Can't say I was impressed! The Militant Bobo Rasta has to be one of the worst actors I've seen!!..... Shame really.

Bitta classic Kingstonians for Reggae Friday...... Love this tune!

Also anyone in Huddersfield this weekend? It's carnival time and 2 of my mates are playing reggae:

1. Chicken Scratch Sound - Roots, Dancehall, Revival, Ska
Blue Rooms
Byram Arcade
Huddersfield

2. Axis Sound meets Jah Observer (2 vintage valve sounds in one dance!!) - Vintage/Classic Reggae
Bar 1:22
HUDDERSFIELD
TOWN CENTRE

And Jr Gong doing his version - Boom!

And finally the latest cut from Damian and Stephen... Jah Army.

That's be a few down on my list of Toots tracks, Pressure Drop, Funky Kingston, 54-46, and one of the greatest covers ever:

We've not had any Sizzla for a few posts now either. I reckon this track is the best introduction:

Perhaps the most perfect 45 ever made:

More Sizzla is always a :goodidea:

Not much Barrington Levy ina dis thread....

Rectified that!....

This is one of my favourite 90s dancehall tracks.... Much sampled, never bettered.

And a bit more Sizzla, on one of the best riddims this century IMO..

Some great tunes, really enjoyed toots and the maytals, country road, great version!  Been a bit slack today but I've been given a kick up the ass to get my thesis written  :jab:

A bit of British reggae today, I could have posted the whole of steel pulse - Handsworth revolution but I'll just stick to the first 2 tracks

And I can't get enough of this track, just love it, may be being a scientist helps

Johnny B you have good taste lard sah... Toots, Sizzla and Alton Ellis are my fav reggae artists... so here is my selection.

Sizzla - black woman & child:

Toots & the Maytals - Sweet & Dandy: (famously featured in the movie The Rockers)

Alton Ellis - African descendants:

And one of my all time fav tracks / vids, Bob Marley and the Wailers making their TV debue on the Old Grey Whistle Test:

Love that Dennis Brown tune......

Bit of a rewind to Welcome to Jamrock from last week (massive tune) - The original from Ini Kamoze with Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespear on drums and bass....

And an instrumental from Brass legend Rico Rodriguez....

An obvious choice, but who cares when the music is this good:

And perhaps my favourite reggae artist, sounding like he's coming to you from before the beginning of time:

Repeat of a Don Letts Radio 2 doc last night on 70's Jamaican music, ahead of a new ten-part series on reggae with David Rodigan.
