Wave at Google
June 01, 2009, 01:09:06 pm
Google Wave has been "officially" announced.

Kind of like a meta interactive board which mashes up the ideas behind Farcebook/Twitter/Digg/Stumble etc. into one interface.

Wait and see how it works before commenting.

Looked really interesting - a way of easily putting things on webpages which multiple people can interact with... thats whats great about twitter - its so easy to put one of their widgets in a page.. something like that but better would be great.
I started watching the google presentation on it, but gave up after a min or two (I'm not that geeky) after I realised it was 1hour 20 min long not 1min 20!

I managed to make it about half way through before I gave up on the rest but it looks brilliant. As they say, it looks like what email should be. I have it when you have to crawl through old emails to find what you are after. This seems like if it is used well then it will be the future.

The only issue I can see here is that a lot of people I know have enough trouble with email as it is and making them learn something new an a bit more involved might not go so well.

Exciting, I have fairly high hopes for it, I'm always really impressed with Google stuff, they seem to manage to be pretty cutting edge while still being easy to use for those of us who have no real idea about technology.  ;D

Currently waiting for an invite after someone has supposedly nominated me, takes a few days apparently (currently on day five), will PM if it falls through.

If it works the way it seems to in the video it should be brilliant, I love that the 'email' bit isn't really like standard email at all, it's much more like a forum or something.

I've PM'd you Steve.

the problem at the moment is it's like a big party that no one else has gone to and you're not off your tits. hence you leave after 2 mins and go get a kebab.

I do wonder how great it will be to begin with, surely to make it work properly you need to know a lot of people who are also using it?  Otherwise you'll have all the ability to do fancy things but nobody to do them with.  :boohoo:

Will you be my friend?  (Not that I've anything useful to say or write beyond the shite I spout on here, which is probably reason enough for everyone to avoid having me in their contacts!).

Might be fun for a bit and a bit more difficult for our IT Dept to block, unlike all other social network sites.

I have my invite, but the whole world is against, rather than just my work IT people, me and it won't bloody load.  It wanted me to download Chrome which I can't do in work, and when I try to log in without it, the page just hangs and won't finish loading up.   :'(

Maybe I'll have more luck at home.   In the meantime, I need a body to test stuff on when I do get in, so someone who is already on there PM me their details please.  :-*

Have you tried accessing Twitter via Hootsuite? They may not have blocked that one...

This online book on Wave looks pretty good - not read it all but it's the best guide I've found so far:

Nice find Bubba! I've linked people who requested an invite into a wave so that you can all find people to test, chat and witter with. Hope that no-one minds...
