Thanks mate!

Spooky noises could well have been deer - I didn’t see any cows nearby and the deer were making a racket.

Didn’t see any long tailed tits, but maybe that’s because I cut across the moor (to the end of the affair end of curbar) before getting to the trees. Is that where they were hanging out? Did see a kestrel, so maybe they were just keeping out of its way.

Cool and thanks - although should have been clearer - I meant there generally seem to be more LT Tits around everywhere!

Couple of red deer, stonechats and a Dartford Warbler when visiting the in-laws in Suffolk. Pleased to see a Dartford Warbler at this time of year: I know they're present year-round, but I've only previously seem them in spring when the males are singing.

Never seen a Dartford Warbler - nice one.

Will be in the Peak this weekend, toying with the idea of trying to get a glimpse of the deer around White Edge. Any tips? Assuming dawn is the best time?

We walked up to the trig point one evening an hour before sunset to find three groups up there who all  wandered off down toward Curbar.  Probably varies, imagine they'd quite active in the mornings after liong cold nights

I think they spend nights down in the woods below Curbar edge, have surprised a few before.

I saw loads of deer while I was walking down from curbar to the Chequers Inn just over a week ago. It was just before sunset. There was an amazing stag too, very impressive!

Not much action on this thread for a while, so here's a few holiday snaps from Tobago. Its a fantastic island for wildlife, with a lot of species for its size. Trinidad has even more, but isn't really a safe holiday island apparently. We had a couple of days with renowned local expert Newton George - a lovely gentleman and boy does he know his stuff!

Amazing. We have an office in Trinidad, apparently safe enough just a bit scuzzy in places

Seems everyone's seen a Hawfinch bar me and Andy Emery!!

Last few weeks saw us up in Teesdale where a lovely New Year's Eve walk saw us get fantastic views of a pair of roe deer beneath Harter Fell. First time I've ever been able to spend a good 5 minutes observing them - made up for the Noodle to get such good views too!

Weekend just gone saw us on a raptor hunt between Neston and Park Gate expectations were high for Hen Harriers and SE Owls! In the end we had to make do with lots of Marsh Harriers and Kestrels and a fabulous close up fly by from a Sparrowhawk. Best ever views I've ever had of Marsh Harriers hunting at pretty close quarters but turns out we should have turned left at the parking where 6 SE Owls and a male and female Hen Harrier put on a fantastic displays for watchers - there's always next time  :)

Also of note, I was delighted to happen across an increasingly rare sighting at the Buckstone yesterday. Happily pottering away on the punter side of the block, I became aware of some muttering coming from the Spring Voyage area. An immediate investigation revealed the majestic sight of a (consistently lesser spotted) Dense Loner!!!

His behaviour was unmistakable - pulling on in one position, moving to the next hold, coming back to the ground and muttering about tall people repeatedly. I'm sure I even heard him say something about Danny's problem at one stage.

A little greyer than when I last saw him, it turns out Doylo doesn't let him out much...

Rarer than a Hawfinch according to some...

7 deer outside office window last week, and a fox wandered by. Got a great view right into NE Corrie of Lochnagar from my desk too, which hurts sometimes.

Pure white stoat today. See a fair few around all year in normal "plumage" but not seen one in full winter garb for a long while.
It was also the luckiest stoat alive as the dog missed it by mm three times before i managed to get a hold of her. She found it in a log.

Saw something pretty interesting yesterday and wondered if anyone had any insights. I'm currently in El Chorro and saw two birds which seemed to be attached together in mid air and just whirling around one another really fast like a seed helicoptering down to the ground. They eventually smashed into a ledge and separated before flying off. I think they were red billed choughs. About the size of a large crow but with a red downturned bill. I thought it might have been a fighting or breeding behaviour but I haven't found any mention of any birds doing this online so now wondering if was a freak occurrence. Anyone heard of this before?

The description of the bird sounds like a cough but I'm not very familiar with their behaviour.  However ravens, their close relatives, do paired aerial diplays around this time of year to look for a mate, so perhaps coughs do similar? Can't think what else it might be.

Cheers Gaz. That sounds about right. It was pretty similar to this but whirling a lot faster.
