Pretty sure I saw a linnet in the burbage valley today, would that be unusual? The valley also seems to be full of Stonechats (saw several today and some earlier this week). Its the first time I've seem either of these so not 100% sure on the ID but fairly confident.

I've seen linnets around the burbage valley, not at all unusual. They like hedgerows, farmland and heathland so they're often knocking around the semi-moorland around fox house.

Not a sighting, but I heard my first Nightjar ever in the Burbage valley this week. Amazing sound. This species was one of the hopes of clearing the plantation, so good to know it has had near instant success.

Just sat out on the balcony at uni and a baby blue tit came and landed on my shoulder. I don't know who was more surprised, me or the bird when I started moving!

Nice pair of kestrels at Lower Glen Lednock (a bolted-chopped-bolted sport crag of low significance and quality...)  Made our day!  (the huge old chestnut trees were very nice too)

That's good to hear. Saw my first Nightjar last year in Suffolk when visiting the in-laws. We'd gone out to the heath to listen for them, and ended up having one fly over our heads! They've a flying silhouette and style quite unlike anything else.

Spotted a Short Eared Owl while walking to the bouldering on the coast recently. Was getting hassled by a Carrion Crow. Even managed a terrible photo to get confirmation from my Birdwatcher mate.

From facebook:

Quote from: Peak sport climbing lifts/partners/conditions/beta
There's a Grey Wagtail nesting on the bottom ramp line of the 6a+ version of Max Pact and the 6c+ 'The Max Works'. The nest is hidden and has four eggs in it. We unknowingly climbed up there today and scared the bird off the nest, it went back on when we down climbed and left. I think it'll def abandon the nest if several people climb up there. Grey Wagtails are on the 'Red' conservation list meaning they've suffered severe declines over recent years, so please don't climb near these routes and ideally not near there either. Anyone know who the Access/ Conservation Officer for BMC is for Cheedale? Share the word, would hate to see these little guys abandon their nest... thanks :-)

Turned up at the Climbing Hangar last week and was treated to the very unique sound of a Grasshopper Warbler in a tree above the parking area!

Been anywhere nice had they?  ;)

lagers - was just thinking of Yellowhammers the other day and how I hadn't seen one in years. See Goldfinches around my area on an almost daily basis and a Jay every now and then which is great - must get a feeder out as well as there are lots of blue tits (and other tits) as well.

Nearly puntered you for that!

On the Osprey tip I called in at the ever lovely Brockholes yesterday on the way back from Teesdale and heard the an Osprey had been over a few times. Exiting one of the hides, I happened to look up and lo! There it was!! Bigger than a buzzard with almost gull-like wings... Super happy with this as a first but also because of where it was spotted :) :) :)

Whilst up in Teesdale, saw lots of the usual suspects (curlew, lapwing, PF Geese, Oystercatchers) but the best thing was the swifts! The 3rd floor flat we stay in is a converted barn on the edge of Middleton has a window seat. A thoroughly lovely time was had just sitting there as the swifts zoom past a foot from your nose screeing like banshees - proper bo nature experience man...  :dance1:

And I'd have deserved it.  ;D

Nice work on the osprey. Haven't see one in quite a few years now. Pretty birds. Nice work on the swifts, although it makes me realise I haven't see many swallows this year.

On the small things front- I saw a lovely plume moth (Platyptilia gonodactyla) and a cheeky young frog which was about 1.5cm long  :)
