It could well be the case given the mileage but the dealer was still a shifty one. He sold the car with 15% more miles than advertised as "he rounded down to 100k". I didn't notice for a week or two by which time I'd moved 200 miles away and got rid of my car so couldn't really take it back...

If I get another year out of it I'll be happy anyway - if it was a bit bigger I'd live in the thing in London again. Though it wasn't the most fun ever last time.

Mot for mates etc.. is not doing anyone a favour - the test is there for an important purpose. I once changed a mini rear subframe (and components) for a friend who's garage owning uncle had MOT'd it for the last three years. I pointed out the brake lines that had corroded to the point they looked like flake bars (seriously) and the fluid pissing cylinders - and the words death trap and 'did they want to kill you' were exchanged.

Amen to that TT.

Total bill came out at £470 (including the fixed I got last week in preparation). If the fucker breaks it's going over a cliff.
Hopefully it will last another few years and take me out to Europe a handful more times at least.

It really could do with a service soon as well. Does anyone know the difference between the full and partial service options (other than about £80)?

Fucking cars.

Edit.

I shouldn't take it out on the van really... He's taken me all over Europe, saved me from hotel costs, housed me for a month in London, taught me lots about DIY, made moving things MUCH easier, given me great mileage, and other than a new battery caused me no problems at all. Some wear can't really be helped on a 118k mileage vehicle. Just fucking sucks paying for the said wear. Fucking costs.

being about to rejoin the LPG drivers club, I thought I'd get a Green Parking Scheme permit again - the fuckers have put it up from £10 to £100 per year

no free halo either

This week: grim week at work, phone dies completely, along with source of reliable internet; boiler stops working last night. I'm now waiting for a bigscale car breakdown...

I feel your pain - new boiler installed yesterday,  cracked phone screen and pretty stressful period at uni.

Had a YYFY weekend at Fatnecks birthday bash managing 3 good days of climbing. Then Liverpool lost the cup final and my throat started to feel funny. Now back in hospital for the third time this year. Hopefully I will actually get sorted this time so another reoccurance does not happen... Considering a lay off from climbing for a few months to maybe let the body get back to 100% health.

It should only cost you £35 to do a full service yourself and its easy enough. What van have you got? The oil filter can be a bastered if its siezed up. You don't  need an oil filter temoval tool. Just wrap a belt wrond it to get some traction and pull really fucking hard

Best bodge is to spear the filter in the side with a screwdriver and then unwind...

Was going to say the same. Just make damn sure you can get it off, once stabbed, becuse gaffer tape doesn't stick well to oily metal.

I might have to have a look into doing this!

It's a Peugeot Partner so I guess any guidance for that or a Berlingo would suffice. Do you know of anywhere that's got a decent online guide of things you need to do/how to do them? A general one should be okay as long as it's not wildly different!

Yeah it's a diesel. I've never done anything like it before so it might not be the best idea... Though there's always a first time for everything!

As suggested I'd get the haynes manual as it's always hand.  There is also this website which gives a run through of basic servicing https://teon.co/

Haynes manual for a Berlingo is available to download in pdf format from popular torrenting sites but I'd advise against doing something so illegal.

Its probably the 1.6 PSA (I think) engine... its in LOADS of cars (including mine). Ford, Peugot, Citroen, Volvo...

Loads of video's for oil change...

https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=service+diesel+1.6+PSA&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gws_rd=cr,ssl&ei=wBHYVrLeBYOYsgHBvI-oDg#tbm=vid&q=oil+change+diesel+1.6+PSA

You're also supposed to change the fuel filter too - which can (I think) be a bit trickier... (you dont want air in the system)
