So, as a mark of respect to cobblers and they're art (and hopefully lighten some lives a little), I hear by cry NNFN, for the death of these shoes...

Anyone'd struggle to resole a shoe that's about 7 feet long like that one.

The very evening that was my minor YYFY turned into a potentially major NNFN  :(

Tweaked my knee doing a rockover(ish) move. Something in the back, outer corner - it's now all mushy and sore.  :'(

Just out of curiosity I found out that I am actually only 169,5 cm tall and not 172 as I've always been told by doctors. Or I just shrunk.
Taking half a grade more for everyhing done.

I would have thought all that dead hanging with weights would have made you taller!

I've shrunk almost 2.5 cm between age 19 and 44.
They tell me my spine is fine.

Me thinks they lie.

So there's hope that one day I can abuse people for lanking climbs and make up for all the heckling I've had over the years? Can't wait.

As you get older, your hips tend to get wider and therefore waist size can increase without any weight gain. I think its to do the gradual compression of your spine but I might possibly have just made that up.

Don't care if you dreamt it,  it's a fantastic excuse for my condition and I'm keeping it.

As you get STRONGER, your SHOULDERS tend to get wider and therefore waist size can DECREASE without any weight gain.

Yes. Inconvenient, safe, not lost. Mrs Donkey's criteria for packing up and checking a room leaves a lot to be desired.

Over time discs compress, natural wear and tear, throw in a bit of kyphosis, doesn't sound so extreme to me.

Left my manicure bag containing tape, nail file, moisturizer  etc. at the wall on Wednesday. Got it back today minus the expensive Climb On cream. Somebody actually had the nerve to look inside it, nick the expensive (used) stuff and hand the rest in. My faith in humankind is shattered.

Coming from one who has felt the pain of being dropped and moving on from it, I feel for both you and your son.  I was broken by getting dropped at about the same age.  For about 12-18 months I was broken, lack of faith in myself led to decreasing performance, which only seemed to confirm the decision.  Whatever you can do, build his confidence in himself.

Issues with our kids are some of the hardest. Good Luck!

Same here, very brief experience in soccer with terrible outcomes, and a long career spent on the bench in basket. The level of paranoia that some coaches have, is mindblowing.
But I had and have and always will, the Iron.
All my ex team members have jelly arms and fat bellies.
I have veins on my traps and can still jump (broken knees permitting).
The Iron never lies and never judges.
Good luck with the little beast, I'm sure that he'll grow stronger.

Yup, I like looking at photos of the first rigby team from high school and seeing what fat fuckers they all are.

It's nearly winter though, at least powder snow doesn't choose you, you choose the powder.

I went through a similar experience as your son, at about the same age.

I was in the Scottish Sailing Squad for around 4 years. We had to do winter training weekends (torture, ice cold dinghy sailing) and "represent" Scotland at national and international events.

I was never "top dog" - I was a bit immature and didn't have the natural knack that some had, but I was solidly in the top 5 in our class. That was, until I found booze, girls and partying.

One regrettable incident of such led to me being asked to quietly slip out of the squad. I was around 16iirc. That summer I tried to continue to race but I was slow, too heavy for the boat and not interested any more. After a couple of terrible results I jacked it all in much to the dismay of my father.

He was a keen sailor and had put a lot of time, effort and money into sailing. Later I took up mountain biking as it was waaaay more fun. I ended up competing in that, doing pretty well (not far off as well as in sailing) and enjoyed it a lot more because I could "train without training" i.e. just fucking about on the bikes with my mates was great fun and improved our riding.

My dad was never really interested in my biking. I think he was always a bit disappointed that I gave up sailing. We argued a lot between 17 and 21/22, as we were quite similar in many ways.

I think it's important to remember:

1) winning isn't everything - kids need to fail once in a while to learn life's lessons.
2) support is what's important. If he chooses to do nothing for a while, so be it. If he still wants to play maybe try to make him see the benefit of being the top-dog in a lower league. Maybe he could be team captain? Remind him that he can always rejoin the top tier if he improves.
3) be interested in whatever he chooses.

Also, remember that 6 months is still a long time in a 16 year olds mind, whereas it's a barely a blink for an adult.
