Week of holdiay - youngest shows first sign of chickenpox on the Saturday morning! Week of very unhappy child. At least it was Aviemore not a couple of grand on the ski trip to the Alps we were planning.

Three weeks spent being very delicate with injured finger and then I reinjure it worse by far than the original tweak, worst thing being that I injured it at work, not even while climbing. Summer season is fast approaching and I have barely trained since Christmas with assorted aches and pains.

Snapped the middle bit out of the locking nut on one wheel while changing out winter tyres yesterday. Any ideas how to remove it now??

Did exactly this last year, broke 3 out of 4 as the 'key' had warped. After being turned away at the usual tyre places then trying and failing to DIY it with these  (don't bother, waste of time and money) asked around for a local specialist garage/motor engineer, in Sheffield this was a local garage with a good reputation for solving problems.

Cost me around £40.

I had only continued to use the locking ones as they were on the car already, didn't occur to me no-one would ever nick my piece of shit knackered alloys.

(I think I still have the 'removers', I did actually manage to get one off with them after a lot of effort. Mind you it was the outside of mine that had broken so it had less surface to grip. If you want to give them a go I can send you some)

2nd day of Oliana holiday and physio member of the team is now convinced my dodgy shoulder isn't an imbalance/impingement but instead a SLAP lesion - bugger, bugger, bugger

7 days remaining, should I

A - Up the vitamin I dose, hope conditions come good and get lucky with Fisheye?
B - Up the vitamin I dose and get a compensation 8a+ tick?
C - Sack it off, do nothing/easy climbing/belaying?

C is the "sensible" option for longterm shoulder health, but is bloody boring, especially when you've sunk a winters worth of training and two reconnaissance trips into ticking your first 8c  :(

Well B seems like a shit option - you don't get to try fisheye, and you injure yourself more... so it's A or C. Knowing nothing about shoulders I can't comment.

Cheers for the info. It's in for a service tomorrow with a fairly good local garage, will see if they can do anything, if not I might have shot with that thing. There's quite a lot of nut sticking out, it's only the little bit in the middle that fell out. I might get shot of the others too, TBH, the aloys are in a bit of a state, nicking them would be doing me a favour.

SA Chris. Best take it to the garage (as you've done) they'll probably drill out the centre of the nut and try to use an 'easy out' which is like a reverse threaded self tapping screw.. it can for sure be done, but can be awkward/messy. I've done it with shared bolts in Engine blocks where theres much less room for error (and the bolt is much smaller!).

Part of the problem with these locking nuts is that often tyre fitting places wizz up ALL the bolts with the air gun - where these should really be hand tightened and not up to the full bolt torque.. (many say that for all bolts on Alloys they should all be hand tightened and torqued for the final bit).

I don't think it's anything serious like a ligament or the likes, but it's swollen, painful, and I can't flex it or extend it. It hurts on the inside, more or left in the middle of the joint, maybe meniscus.
I've put on antiinflammatory patches now, and will apply ice later on. Obviously having to stand in a queue in the Court of Justice for the whole morning did not help much.
Still four days to recover though.

Must admit after changing 4 wheels by myself, I was tightening them using (my not insubstantial) bodyweight on the wheel spanner, which may have been a bit excessive. Anyway, the garage said they would have a look and should be able to sort it out while servicing.

4:51am and I'm lying in bed fuming and (if honest) scared.
For the second time in less than a year I've been beaten up outside my own front door, by complete strangers.
Last Halloween a bunch of drunken twats tried to attack our elderly neighbour when he protested at them holding a party in the road outside our houses. I intervened and though I probably did far more damage to them, I earned a black eye for my troubles. Oddly enough from a girl dressed as Alice in Wonderland, to whom, I declined to return the favour.

Tonight, we were disturbed by voices at the front of the house and while Polly looked out of the window, I went down (in PJs and slippers) to see what was wrong.
I was expecting a couple of people.
There were at least six, standing in the drive and Polly shouted down "there's more in the car port!"
I turned to look, saw the glow of a mobile and was punched in the back of the head. I may have told them to fuck off, just before that, bit fuzzy on that.

Everything after that was equally fuzzy. My glasses were knocked off very quickly, so essentially I was blind.
I managed to grab one who came too close. Put him in a headlock and between me and them with my back against a car. Which unfortunately left my face unprotected and hands occupied. They started  punching and kicking me (think I was on my knees at that point). So I shouted that I'd break their mates neck if they didn't back off. I got up holding him and they backed away a little.

At which point I made my second mistake (number one being opening the front door, but who knew?)and let go of the shit.
This was apparently an invitation to start again.

They were kids.

Aged 14 to 16!

They were filming it!

They were threatening to kill/rape Polly and the kids (by now crying on the doorstep), burn down the house etc etc.

The police nabbed two of them. Who gave it a lot of " I'm 14! You can touch me!".

And they caught the girl, who'd been the one with the phone; filming in the car port.

Why?

I end up being stitched by a Paramedic (only two, on an elbow) in front of my five year old daughter. I'm black and blue and twisted a knee so badly stairs are a major problem.
For some kids to film!
And what's next?
A couple are in custody. Will the rest want revenge?
Wankers!
We were just picked at random!

That is a worry - you'll heal no doubt Matt but it's the ongoing stress that's the hard part.

"I'm 14! You can touch me!" - lock them away and their parents for not being proper guardians!

Hope you and your family heal soon.

Not good Matt.

If they were local yoofs knocking on random doors to pick on someone then I suspect they got far more than they bargained for when you opened the door... I doubt you'll get a return visit.

If the old bill got the filmers video then they'll all get nailed for this.. and deservedly so..

What the f*cks wrong with this world....

That's f**ked up Matt, get better soon. I'd be tempted to put some big arse IR floodlights on the front of your property, they are quite an effective deterrent for scroats.
