Fair enough. But if you were to talk at length at how bad it was then people would think you were a w*nker non?

Me too, but then I wouldn't be a politician on the TV talking about how morally corrupt avoiding tax is. I'd be snorting substances off a high class escort's ass wearing freshly pressed yellow E9 trousers and a wolf vest.

I have a feeling the two aren't mutually exclusive...

Not everyone with money thinks like that though.

For example JK Rowling who now has a fair amount of spare cash kicking around gives her reasons for not avoiding paying tax in this country...

Quote
I chose to remain a domiciled taxpayer for a couple of reasons. The main one was that I wanted my children to grow up where I grew up, to have proper roots in a culture as old and magnificent as Britain’s; to be citizens, with everything that implies, of a real country, not free-floating ex-pats, living in the limbo of some tax haven and associating only with the children of similarly greedy tax exiles.

A second reason, however, was that I am indebted to the British welfare state; the very one that Mr Cameron would like to replace with charity handouts. When my life hit rock bottom, that safety net, threadbare though it had become under John Major’s Government, was there to break the fall. I cannot help feeling, therefore, that it would have been contemptible to scarper for the West Indies at the first sniff of a seven-figure royalty cheque. This, if you like, is my notion of patriotism. On the available evidence, I suspect that it is Lord Ashcroft’s idea of being a mug

It's all very well for those in government to grandstand about how simply awful it is for people to arrange their financial affairs in the most favourable way but unless they can legislate effectively then it's all utterly meaningless. Our current financial regulation system hasn't kept up with globalisation. I'd wager that the vast majority of what's in the Panama stuff will be as legal as milk.

Given the altitude they were found at, these have to be 1500 year old climbing shoes!

I hope no-one from here was flying that way this weekend.
CHC just announced (yesterday?) that they thought they'd dodged the administration bullet...

Just in case any of the Offshore types on here are flying soon. I hope they keep the Pumas grounded.
It seems unlikely that pilot error might have caused the rotor head to detach and  "they" will struggle to blame those cannot answer back.
For once.

That's horrific. I'm glad I'm not taking flights regularly any more. Poor lads.

There has to be a connection to this:

http://www.oilandgaspeople.com/news/8331/chc-fights-the-clock-to-avoid-bankruptcy-after-missed-payment/

That and and the two 100hr delays on rotor service of that airframe in 2015...

Thanks for posting that up. I thought it would be great if we could at least express support for the families and friends of the 96 who died at Hillsborough, as a mark of respect for their courage and determination in their fight for the truth.

There were some remarkably moving, and upsetting comments from Bishop Lowe on BBC 5 live last night.

Well done to you all.

not a finite resource

I wonder whether they'll change the tax?

does using it still exclude people from certain claims on their health insurance?
